This episode of Disconnected covers:

  • Netflix' Love, Death + Robots leading the screen-to-NFT crossover

  • How stolen NFTs have halted production on a new TV show

  • The rise of play-to-earn and move-to-earn systems

  • Suspicions around Elon Musk’s Twitter account issues

  • Short-form content and the next evolution of Instagram Reels

Episode Highlights:

“As people are creating their collectible wallets of NFT's, Love Death + Robots is one you'd put in there as a first - it's the first TV show that's done it. It's probably quite nice if you can collect all nine of them. You can imagine it's going to become a little bit like Pokemon cards where people are desperate to find them and collect them.” - 4:35 - Jen Campbell

“At the moment Netflix has the ‘Are you still watching’ question that appears every three hours or so. That's the only way that there is any engagement happening. So this, in a way, is a slightly more elevated form of engagement.” - 8:55 - Adil Saxena

“It'll be very interesting to see where all this ends up legally, and what happens is such a minefield. I suspect Seth Green would really need to prove that he is a victim of a phishing scam to really stand the chance of getting any of this reverted.” - 19:55 - Jag Sharma

“There's a big challenge with young people to encourage them to get out and move. Turns out, you just need to offer a little bit of money to have a walk, and people go ahead and do it every time. There are questions about the economics of this, because you need to buy a very expensive NFT in order to try to make that back.” - 25:00 - Adil Saxena

“Obviously money is at stake, and it's altruistic to say, ‘We're trying to get everyone moving’. But when money's involved, it turns into a business, and that’s my main concern about it.” - 30:35 - Jason Kapadia

“This Twitter drama is quite unprecedented. I hope it doesn't damage Twitter, because right now I think it makes the whole thing feel a little bit less professional. Is this going to be a town square that I'm going to want to put my thoughts and feelings out through, going forwards? I don’t know” - 39:40 - Jag Sharma

“There’s 1 billion people on Instagram. Half of those people are engaging with Reels, is what they're saying. Again, is that 1 billion active users or 1 billion users? Anyway, 45% of the Instagram audience interact with Reels on a weekly basis.” - 42:30 - Jen Campbell

“Just to underline how important I think short form video is to India, I don't know if you guys know this, but Netflix has reels on their app in India. To the point about brands, I think a brand needs to figure out what their voice should be on short form video, because I think we're gravitating towards this.” - 53:10 - Adil Saxena
